Week 17 Q

CTS1 week 17 question answer

Based on the VR experience I had chosen and the content of today’s course, I must admit that I would not have felt immersed in VR all the time. This is mainly because I would be more concerned with odd details, such as lag in the screen or some model bugs and things like that would be very disruptive to my immersion. On the other hand, I do feel like I can feel present in VR, even if some of the UI and system instructions in the screen can reduce that feeling. My personal opinion is that the on-screen UI should be as minimal and sensible as possible, to blend into the current environment, so that perhaps the sense of presence is less interrupted.

If I needed to change an existing VR experience, I would want to make the virtual environment more realistic to enhance immersion, thus going for a possible idea of VR mental health therapy. I believe that better immersion and virtual environments would make it easier for people to relax and thus make psychotherapy more effective. Another point is that I think more people use VR for better immersion, to put themselves in an unrealistic but realistic environment, such as a futuristic or fantasy world. So I would think that enhanced immersion would be a better option.
